# SPARK vs Lenders Cooperative: two SBA specialists built for different programs

> SPARK is the better fit for a 7(a) desk that wants E-Tran, SBA forms and SOP checklists configured out of the box and will service loans elsewhere. Lenders Cooperative is the better fit for a 504 lender or CDC, for a 7(a) lender that wants 1502 reporting from the same vendor, or for an institution that wants the option to hand underwriting or servicing to the vendor's own SBA staff while its platforms finish merging.

## Feature by feature

| Feature | SPARK | Lenders Cooperative | Edge |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Programs named | None on the SBA page; described as 7(a) end to end by CCG Catalyst | SBA 504, 7(a) and Community Advantage on the Ventures page | Lenders Cooperative |
| E-Tran | Integration built into the platform for direct submission | Direct E-Tran access with documents mapped to SBA's buckets | Tie |
| SBA forms | All required application and closing forms generated | Document generation within the system; forms not named | SPARK |
| Eligibility | SOP rules pre-built, real-time eligibility checklists | Not described | SPARK |
| Servicing and 1502 | No built-in servicing, by its own FAQ; 1502 not mentioned | Modernized 1502 reporting through VLT's Payments; payment tracking; CDC Annual Report tool | Lenders Cooperative |
| Named lenders | The Bancorp, Bank of Idaho, NDC Grow America Fund, American Bank & Trust | SECU MD plus eight named CDC and CDFI clients | Tie |
| Services beside the software | None described | Credit underwriting, SBA LSP services, bank operations, call center | Lenders Cooperative |
| Corporate status | Ignify Technologies, a Public Benefit Corporation with a 2008 timeline; sold by Community Reinvestment Fund, USA to Arcadea Group in June 2023 | Merged with Ventures Lending Technologies February 2025; platforms still being unified | SPARK |
| Volume evidence | Over $4 billion in PPP loans; over $8 billion funded overall | 99.8% of SBA 504 loans processed in 2024, over $20 billion in projects | Tie |

## Choose SPARK when

- You run 7(a) and Express and want the SBA's rules to arrive configured rather than built by your operations team
- Eligibility checklists in the analyst's path matter more than post-closing servicing
- You already have a servicing system or an LSP for the 1502 cycle
- A stable owner and a single platform matter more than breadth of programs

## Choose Lenders Cooperative when

- 504 is a meaningful share of your book, or you are a CDC
- You want 1502 reporting published by the same vendor that originates
- You may outsource underwriting or servicing to start and bring it in-house later
- You can live with a platform transition in exchange for the 504 heritage and the services

## Verdict

These two are the closest thing this category has to a natural pair, and they answer different programs. SPARK's published record is the 7(a) file done properly from intake to E-Tran: forms, SOP rules, checklists and named bank customers, on a platform that took over $4 billion of PPP volume without a public stumble. Its SBA page names no program and says it has no built-in servicing, which is fine for a 7(a) desk that hands loans off at closing and a real gap for anyone else. Lenders Cooperative's record is the Ventures 504 platform, which processed 99.8% of 504 loans in 2024, plus published 1502 reporting and a professional services arm that will underwrite or service for you. Its gap is the merger: a company page says 504 and servicing functionality are still expanding onto the unified platform, so a buyer has to ask which system does what today. A 7(a) bank with servicing handled should not buy Lenders Cooperative for its 504 share, and a CDC should not buy SPARK for its checklists.

## Common questions

### Does either one do 504?

Lenders Cooperative's Ventures page names SBA 504, 7(a) and Community Advantage. SPARK's SBA page names no program; ask directly.
