SPARK vs Lenders Cooperative: two SBA specialists built for different programs

SPARK is the better fit for a 7(a) desk that wants E-Tran, SBA forms and SOP checklists configured out of the box and will service loans elsewhere. Lenders Cooperative is the better fit for a 504 lender or CDC, for a 7(a) lender that wants 1502 reporting from the same vendor, or for an institution that wants the option to hand underwriting or servicing to the vendor's own SBA staff while its platforms finish merging.

One grew up on 7(a) origination and PPP volume. The other absorbed the platform behind almost every 504 loan in the country and sells an SBA back office beside it.

Choose SPARK if…

  • You run 7(a) and Express and want the SBA's rules to arrive configured rather than built by your operations team
  • Eligibility checklists in the analyst's path matter more than post-closing servicing
  • You already have a servicing system or an LSP for the 1502 cycle
  • A stable owner and a single platform matter more than breadth of programs

Choose Lenders Cooperative if…

  • 504 is a meaningful share of your book, or you are a CDC
  • You want 1502 reporting published by the same vendor that originates
  • You may outsource underwriting or servicing to start and bring it in-house later
  • You can live with a platform transition in exchange for the 504 heritage and the services

Our take

These two are the closest thing this category has to a natural pair, and they answer different programs. SPARK's published record is the 7(a) file done properly from intake to E-Tran: forms, SOP rules, checklists and named bank customers, on a platform that took over $4 billion of PPP volume without a public stumble. Its SBA page names no program and says it has no built-in servicing, which is fine for a 7(a) desk that hands loans off at closing and a real gap for anyone else. Lenders Cooperative's record is the Ventures 504 platform, which processed 99.8% of 504 loans in 2024, plus published 1502 reporting and a professional services arm that will underwrite or service for you. Its gap is the merger: a company page says 504 and servicing functionality are still expanding onto the unified platform, so a buyer has to ask which system does what today. A 7(a) bank with servicing handled should not buy Lenders Cooperative for its 504 share, and a CDC should not buy SPARK for its checklists.
